Scandia has been manufacturing sauna heaters and accessories in the United States since 1962 — over 60 years of building commercial-grade equipment that's found its way into YMCAs, Gold's Gyms, Powerhouse Gyms, Bally's Total Fitness locations, university athletic facilities, resorts, and home saunas across the country. What sets Scandia apart is their combination of gas and electric heater lines (they're one of very few companies making gas-fired sauna heaters), all-stainless-steel construction, and a full line of sauna accessories from doors to lighting to flooring. Everything is built for the kind of daily abuse a commercial facility demands, which means it'll outlast expectations in a home sauna.

Scandia's gas heaters are widely considered the gold standard for gas-fired sauna heating. They run on either natural gas or liquid propane (dual-fuel capable), use floor-mounted installation, and are built entirely from 321 stainless steel — a grade specifically chosen for its resistance to corrosion in the high-moisture, high-heat sauna environment. Gas heaters are ideal for situations where running a 240V electrical circuit is impractical, where you want faster heat-up times than electric, or where you prefer the operating cost advantages of natural gas.
Scandia Model 240 — 40K BTU — The standard residential/light commercial gas heater. 40,000 BTU output is suitable for most home saunas and smaller commercial rooms. Floor-mounted with a standing pilot light. Runs on natural gas or propane with a simple conversion. Includes a standard safety valve and thermocouple.
Scandia Model 280 — 80K BTU — Double the heating power for larger commercial saunas. 80,000 BTU output handles high-volume rooms in gyms, spas, and fitness centers. Same 321 stainless steel construction and dual-fuel capability as the 240. If your sauna room exceeds what the 40K BTU model can handle, this is the step up.
Scandia 24-Hour Digital Programmable Timer — A timer designed specifically for Scandia's G-24 gas heater controls. Allows you to program your sauna to turn on and off automatically throughout the week — especially useful in commercial settings where you want the sauna ready at opening time without manual intervention. Requires 120V power supply.

The Ultra series is Scandia's electric heater line — 100% stainless steel construction, convection-style airflow for even heat distribution, and wall-mounted installation. A key design feature is the elevated rock tray, which allows you to pour water over the stones for steam without water dripping down into the heating elements. This protects the elements and extends heater life, especially in saunas where löyly (steam from water on stones) is a regular part of the bathing routine. Controls can be built into the heater or mounted remotely with a 4-foot capillary tube.
Scandia Ultra Small — 3/4.5kW — For compact home saunas. The smallest Ultra model, designed for rooms where space and power are limited. Available in 240V.
Scandia Ultra Medium — 6/7.5/9kW — The mid-range model covering most residential and light commercial saunas. Multiple kW options (6, 7.5, and 9kW) in a single model platform let you match heating output to your room size. Available in 240V and 208V for commercial installations.
Scandia Ultra Large — 12/18kW — For large saunas and commercial installations. 12kW and 18kW options handle rooms that smaller heaters can't keep up with. Available in 240V and 208V. This is the model you'll find in commercial gyms and fitness centers.

Scandia Glass Sauna Door (36×80") — Full tempered glass door with chamfered edges, door frame, hinges, and handles included. Glass doors let light into the sauna, make the space feel larger, and are easy to clean. A popular upgrade over standard wood doors for both home and commercial saunas.
Scandia Cedar Sauna Door with Glass Insert — A hand-crafted Western Red Cedar door with a dual-pane glass insert window. Combines the traditional look of a wood door with the light-admitting benefits of a glass window. Includes door frame, hinges, and handles.
Scandia Wall Sauna Light — An oval wall-mounted light rated for sauna temperatures. High-temperature rated and shatter-proof for safety in a wet, hot environment.
Scandia 3" LED Recessed Dimmable Light (3000K) — A premium recessed LED option for saunas that want a cleaner, more modern lighting look. Aimable housing lets you direct the light. Dimmable for ambiance control. 3000K warm white color temperature creates a relaxing atmosphere without the harsh blue tones of cooler LEDs. Includes junction box for code-compliant installation.
Sauna Wood Oil (1 Gallon) — 100% natural ingredient wood oil formulated for sauna interiors. Keeps wood looking fresh and protected during years of high-heat, high-moisture use. Regular application preserves the wood's appearance and extends the life of your sauna's interior.
Red Cedar Duckboard Flooring (2'×2') — Removable Western Red Cedar floor panels. Duckboard design allows water to drain through while providing a comfortable, non-slip walking surface. Easy to pull out for cleaning.
Tru-Tile PVC Interlocking Flooring (12"×12") — PVC interlocking tiles for sauna and steam room floors. An alternative to wood duckboard — waterproof, easy to clean, and simple to install with the interlocking design.
Himalayan Salt Wall Tiles (6"×8") — Natural Himalayan salt panels for building a salt wall in your sauna. Salt walls release negative ions when heated, and many sauna bathers enjoy the ambient glow and subtle mineral quality they add to the sauna experience.
Thermometers & Hygrometers — Scandia offers several options: a combined thermometer/hygrometer (5" diameter, reads °F and °C), a wooden 2-dial thermometer-hygrometer, a wooden 1-dial combined unit, and a hand-crafted cabin-style thermometer. All designed for sauna wall mounting.
Cedar Headrest — Grade-A Western Red Cedar headrest (10½"W × 15½"L). Provides comfortable neck and head support while reclining on upper benches.
Cedar Towel & Robe Holder (2 Peg) — Western Red Cedar wall-mounted hanger for towels and robes. Matches cedar sauna interiors.
Wooden Sauna Clock — Wooden clock with burned-in numbers and Scandia logo. 8" front diameter. Requires 1 AA battery.
Gas heaters heat up faster than electric, typically have lower operating costs (natural gas is cheaper than electricity in most areas), and don't require a high-amperage 240V electrical circuit — which can be expensive to run if your electrical panel is far from the sauna. The tradeoff is that gas heaters require a gas line and proper venting, which adds to installation complexity. They also tend to be floor-mounted only, while electric heaters offer wall-mount options. Read our full comparison: Gas Sauna Heaters: Everything You Need to Know.
Yes. Both the Model 240 (40K BTU) and Model 280 (80K BTU) are dual-fuel — they can run on natural gas or liquid propane. A simple conversion between fuel types is possible.
Scandia Ultra heaters are built with a commercial-first mindset — all-stainless-steel construction, elevated rock trays that protect elements from water damage, and a track record in high-traffic gym environments. Harvia and HUUM offer more models, more design variety, WiFi control options, and a wider range of sizes for home saunas. If you want proven commercial durability and don't need WiFi or design-forward aesthetics, Scandia is a strong choice. If you want smart controls, more size options, or a specific design look, Harvia and HUUM give you more to choose from.
Both. While Scandia's heaters are the preferred brand for many commercial gyms and fitness centers, their residential models (Ultra Small at 3/4.5kW, Ultra Medium at 6/7.5kW, Model 240 gas at 40K BTU) are sized and priced for home saunas. The commercial-grade construction just means your home heater is overbuilt for its application — which is a good thing for longevity.
Scandia manufactures in the United States. They've been making sauna heaters and accessories on American soil since 1962 — one of the few sauna heater brands that can make that claim. Most competing brands (Harvia, HUUM, Saunum, Narvi) manufacture in Finland or Estonia.
