WiFi sauna heaters connect to your home network and pair with a smartphone app. From the app, you can turn the heater on and off remotely, set a target temperature, schedule sessions in advance, and monitor real-time temperature readings. Most models also include a physical control panel as a backup, so you're never fully dependent on the app or your WiFi connection.
Each brand uses its own app and controller system. Here's how the three main platforms compare:
Harvia's WiFi system works through a compatible digital controller — either the Harvia Xenio or the Griffin controller with data cable. The controller connects to WiFi via the Harvia WiFi module, and you manage everything through the MyHarvia app on iPhone or Android.
Harvia WiFi is available across their full heater lineup, meaning you can add smart control to wall-mounted models like the Harvia KIP and Harvia Spirit, or floor-standing models like the Cilindro and Club. HUUM heaters like the HUUM Drop and HUUM Hive use the HUUM UKU controller, which has WiFi built in — no separate module needed. The HUUM app lets you control temperature, set timers, schedule sessions, and manage multiple saunas from one account. Saunum heaters feature their own WiFi-enabled control system with app support. Saunum's unique selling point is their patented air circulation technology that distributes heat more evenly throughout the sauna room. Peak Saunas offers full spectrum infrared saunas with built-in WiFi app control. These are complete sauna units (not standalone heaters) with smart controls built into the sauna itself. For DIY infrared builds, the Finnmark V2 WiFi touchscreen controller adds smart control to any infrared panel setup.
If you have a Harvia heater with a Xenio or Griffin digital controller, yes — the Harvia WiFi module plugs directly into your existing controller. HUUM's UKU controller has WiFi built in, so if you already have one, you just need to connect it to your network. If your heater uses a basic knob/analog controller, you'll need to upgrade to a digital controller first.
Currently, Harvia, HUUM, and Saunum use their own dedicated apps rather than integrating directly with Alexa, Google Home, or HomeKit. You control the heater through the brand's app on your phone. Some users have found workarounds with automation platforms, but native smart home integration isn't officially supported yet.
WiFi sauna controllers include the same safety features as standard digital controllers: maximum temperature limits, automatic shutoff timers (typically 1–12 hours), and overheat protection. The apps require account login, so only authorized users can control your heater. The physical control panel also remains functional as a backup.
Every WiFi-enabled heater on this page also has a physical control panel that works independently of WiFi. If your internet goes out, you can still operate the heater manually. WiFi is a convenience layer on top of the standard controls, not a replacement.
HUUM's app is generally considered the most polished and user-friendly out of the box, with WiFi built into the controller and no extra modules to buy. Harvia's MyHarvia app has the broadest heater compatibility since it works across their entire lineup. Saunum's app integrates with their unique air circulation system.
