Infrared Saunas

Infrared Saunas

Infrared Saunas for Every Space and Budget

Infrared saunas use light panels to warm your body directly rather than heating the air like a traditional sauna. The result is a gentler, more comfortable heat at 120–150°F with faster warm-up times (15–20 minutes vs. 30–45 for traditional), lower energy costs, and many of the same wellness benefits — including deep sweating, detoxification, improved circulation, and muscle recovery.

We carry infrared saunas from Dynamic Saunas, Golden Designs, Peak Saunas, Maxxus, Finnmark Designs, and more — from compact 1-person units that plug into a standard outlet to large multi-person cabins for outdoor use. Every order ships free with 0% financing available.

FAR Infrared vs. Full Spectrum Infrared

FAR Infrared (FIR) Saunas — The most common and affordable type. FAR infrared operates in the 5.6–15 micron wavelength range, which penetrates about 1.5 inches into the body. FAR panels are efficient at producing deep, penetrating heat at comfortable air temperatures. Most budget and mid-range infrared saunas use FAR technology exclusively. If you're primarily looking for deep sweating and relaxation, FAR infrared delivers.

Full Spectrum Infrared Saunas — These combine near, mid, and far infrared wavelengths in one unit. Near infrared (0.7–1.4 microns) targets skin-level benefits like collagen production and wound healing. Mid infrared (1.4–5.6 microns) reaches deeper tissue for joint pain and inflammation. Full spectrum saunas give you the complete range of infrared wavelengths for the broadest set of benefits. They cost more than FAR-only models but are the premium choice for anyone serious about wellness.

Infrared Saunas With Red Light Therapy

Our fastest-growing category. Infrared saunas with built-in red light therapy combine infrared heat with red and near-infrared light panels for a dual-therapy session. Red light therapy supports skin health, muscle recovery, reduced inflammation, and cellular energy production — benefits that stack on top of what the infrared sauna already provides.

Peak Saunas specializes in full spectrum infrared saunas with medical-grade red light therapy panels built in. If you already own an infrared sauna and want to add red light, we also carry standalone red light therapy panels designed for saunas. Shop by Size

1-Person Infrared Saunas — Compact units with a footprint as small as 3' x 3'. Many plug into a standard 120V outlet with no electrician needed. Ideal for apartments, small homes, or anyone who wants a personal sauna without giving up much space.

2-Person Infrared Saunas — The most popular size for couples and individuals who want more room. Typical footprint around 4' x 4'. Still fits in most spare rooms, basements, or large bathrooms.

3-Person & 4-Person Infrared Saunas — Family-sized options with bench seating for multiple users. These start requiring more dedicated space — a spare room, garage corner, or outdoor placement.

5+ Person Infrared Saunas — Large units built for families, Airbnbs, or commercial settings like gyms and spas. Usually outdoor-rated with heavier construction.

Indoor vs. Outdoor Infrared Saunas

Indoor infrared saunas are the most common setup. Most models are pre-built cabin-style units that assemble in under an hour with no tools — you simply connect the panels, plug in, and start using it. Smaller 1–2 person models run on a standard 120V outlet. Larger models may need a dedicated 240V circuit. Infrared saunas are a great fit for bathroom remodels, basements, spare bedrooms, and even shed conversions.

Outdoor infrared saunas are built with weather-resistant exteriors and outdoor-rated electrical components. While traditional saunas dominate the outdoor market, infrared options are available for homeowners who want the lower-temperature infrared experience in a backyard setting. Make sure any outdoor infrared sauna you choose is rated for exterior use — not all are.

Build Your Own Infrared Sauna (DIY)

Don't want to buy a pre-built unit? You can build your own infrared sauna for less using infrared heater panels, sauna-grade wood, and a controller. Our step-by-step DIY infrared sauna guide walks you through everything from materials and panel placement to wiring and ventilation. Use our infrared panel calculator to figure out how many panels you need for your room size.

Popular DIY approaches include converting a closet, spare bathroom, or shed into an infrared sauna. You can also add infrared panels to an existing traditional sauna to create a hybrid setup.

Residential vs. Commercial Infrared Saunas

Residential infrared saunas are designed for home use with standard residential electrical, warranty terms for personal use, and sizing for 1–4 people.

Commercial infrared saunas are built for gyms, spas, wellness centers, and hospitality properties. They feature heavier-duty construction, commercial warranties, higher-capacity seating, and components rated for continuous daily use. Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between an infrared sauna and a traditional sauna?

Traditional saunas heat the air to 150–195°F using an electric or wood-burning heater with rocks for steam. Infrared saunas use light panels to heat your body directly at 120–150°F with no steam. Infrared heats up in 15–20 minutes vs. 30–45 for traditional, uses less electricity, and many people find the lower air temperature more comfortable. Both produce a deep sweat. Our sauna vs. steam room comparison covers the differences in detail.

Do infrared saunas burn calories?

Yes — your body works to cool itself during an infrared session, which burns calories. The exact amount depends on session length, temperature, and your body weight. Use our sauna calorie calculator to estimate how many calories you'll burn per session.

Can I plug an infrared sauna into a regular outlet?

Most 1–2 person infrared saunas run on a standard 120V/15A or 20A outlet — no electrician needed. Larger models (3+ person) often require a dedicated 240V circuit. Always check the product specs before buying. See our electrical requirements guide for details.

What is low EMF and why does it matter?

EMF stands for electromagnetic fields, which all electrical devices produce. "Low EMF" infrared saunas use shielded wiring and panel designs that minimize EMF exposure to levels well below international safety limits. All of the infrared sauna brands we carry — Dynamic, Golden Designs, Peak, Maxxus — use low EMF carbon fiber heating technology.

Can I build my own infrared sauna?

Absolutely. A DIY infrared sauna using our infrared heater panels and sauna wood can cost significantly less than a pre-built unit. Our DIY infrared sauna guide covers the full process, and the panel calculator helps you size the heating system.

Do infrared saunas need ventilation?

Infrared saunas don't produce steam, so they need less ventilation than traditional saunas. However, some airflow is still recommended for comfort and air quality, especially in small rooms. Most pre-built infrared sauna cabins have built-in vents. For DIY builds, a small passive vent or crack at the base of the door is usually sufficient.

Are infrared saunas good for apartments?

Yes — infrared saunas are one of the best sauna options for apartments. Compact 1-person models have a footprint under 3' x 3', plug into a standard outlet, assemble without tools, and produce no steam (so no moisture concerns). They can be placed in a bedroom, living room corner, or large closet. Most can be disassembled and moved when you relocate.
