How to Add Red Light Therapy to Your Sauna for Maximum Wellness

How to Add Red Light Therapy to Your Sauna for Maximum Wellness

Combining the detoxifying heat of a sauna with the regenerative power of red light therapy is one of the most effective wellness upgrades you can make. This powerful combination supports skin health, muscle recovery, circulation, and relaxation. However, not all red light therapy panels are designed for sauna conditions. High heat and humidity can destroy standard devices. In this guide, we’ll show you how to safely and effectively add red light therapy to your sauna using purpose-built technology.

The Combined Benefits of Red Light Therapy and Infrared Saunas | Clearlight® Saunas

Why Combine Red Light Therapy with Sauna Use?

Both saunas and red light therapy offer well-documented wellness benefits. When used together, they amplify each other:

  • Enhanced Circulation: Sauna heat dilates blood vessels while red/NIR light boosts mitochondrial activity.
  • Faster Muscle Recovery: Near-infrared wavelengths (810nm–850nm) penetrate deep into tissue, helping reduce soreness and inflammation.
  • Improved Skin Health: Red light (630nm–660nm) stimulates collagen production and cellular regeneration.
  • Boosted Mood and Energy: Light therapy elevates ATP production while the sauna reduces cortisol and relaxes the nervous system.

Why You Can’t Use Just Any Red Light Panel in a Sauna

Saunas expose electronics to extreme temperatures (up to 150°F) and high humidity, which can fry internal components in standard light therapy devices. That’s why you need sauna-rated red light therapy panels—specially engineered to withstand harsh sauna environments without sacrificing performance or safety.

The Two Sauna-Rated Red Light Panels We Recommend

After careful evaluation, we recommend these two panels as the most reliable options built specifically for sauna use—one compact, one full-body:

Hooga Ember Red Light Therapy Panel

A compact but high-performance panel, ideal for targeted therapy and personal saunas.

Hooga Ember Red Light Therapy Panel 20" x 12" | High-Temperature & Humidity Rated

  • Purpose-Built for Saunas: A sealed IP65 aluminum housing and internal driver withstand high temperature and humidity, rated up to 194°F (90°C).
  • Multi-Wavelength Therapy: 384 high-output LEDs emit red (630nm & 660nm) and near-infrared (810nm & 850nm) light for skin rejuvenation and deep muscle repair.
  • Customizable Sessions: Touch controls with independent red/NIR channels, a 1–20 minute timer, adjustable brightness (0–100%), and 10Hz/40Hz pulse modes.
  • Compact Footprint: At 20" × 12", it fits personal saunas and tighter spaces where a full-body panel won’t.
  • Low EMF: 0.0 µT at 4 inches for safe daily use.

How to Use Red Light Therapy in Your Sauna

Once you’ve selected a sauna-compatible red light panel, follow these tips to maximize results:

Placement

  • Mount the panel on the wall, rest it against a wall while held up on the bench, or use a rolling stand to position it 6–18 inches from your body.
  • For targeted use (e.g. knees, shoulders), use the compact Hooga Ember.
  • For full-body use, choose the larger Hooga Blaze (37") and position it vertically in front of your main bench.

Timing

  • Session Length: 5–15 minutes is sufficient for most users.
  • Frequency: Daily use is ideal, especially post-workout or during cold months.

Safety Tips

  • Always use protective eye goggles (included with both products).
  • Never block the ventilation path of the light panel, especially in high-heat sessions.

Upgrade Your Sauna with Red Light Therapy

If you're looking to enhance the benefits of your sauna, integrating red light therapy is a game-changer. Whether you're focused on skin rejuvenation, inflammation reduction, or general wellness, these two sauna-rated light therapy panels deliver powerful results without compromising safety.

With the right equipment, you can turn your sauna into a full-spectrum wellness retreat—supporting recovery, vitality, and radiant health from the inside out.

Hello, I have a standard far infared sauna (the black panels), I also had an electrician to add on near infrared (four lights) – so both systems are there

Can I add the red light also or does the four near infared lights already do that

Thanks
Drew

Looks as though I have the same concern as others, how are these panels powered ? There are no electrical outlets in my existing sauna, are they required ? Some more information would be helpful. Thank you
