Commercial sauna heaters are built for environments where the sauna runs all day, every day — gyms, fitness centers, spas, hotels, wellness clubs, apartment buildings, and co-working spaces. These heaters differ from residential models in three critical ways: higher kW output to heat larger rooms, 208V three-phase electrical compatibility for commercial buildings, and construction rated for continuous 24-hour operation instead of occasional home use.
Every commercial heater in this collection is made by Harvia, the world's largest sauna heater manufacturer. Harvia's commercial-grade models use stainless steel construction, modular heating elements that can be individually replaced without removing the entire heater, and multi-layer casings that keep surface temperatures lower in high-traffic environments where accidental contact is more likely.
For a complete breakdown of commercial heater selection, electrical requirements, and sauna kit recommendations by gym size, read our Best Gym Sauna Heaters & Sauna Kits for Commercial Use guide. For a side-by-side comparison of the two most popular commercial models, see Harvia Cilindro vs. Harvia Club.
This is the most important technical decision for commercial installations. Most residential properties run 240V single-phase (240V/1PH) power. Most commercial buildings — gyms, hotels, spas, apartment complexes — use 208V three-phase (208V/3PH) power. Every heater in this collection is available in 208V/3PH configurations specifically for commercial electrical systems. If you're unsure which voltage your facility uses, your electrician or building manager can confirm before you order. Selecting the wrong voltage wastes energy and voids the warranty.
If your commercial space happens to run 240V single-phase, these same heater models are also available in 240V/1PH versions.
The Club is Harvia's purpose-built commercial heater — the most popular choice for gym and fitness center saunas. It uses deluxe stainless steel elements designed for continuous operation, a multi-layer outer casing that stays cooler to the touch than standard heaters, and requires an external controller (sold separately or included in heater packages). The Club is available with either an analog controller (which can be fitted with a tamperproof cover to prevent gym members from changing settings) or a Xenio digital controller with WiFi for remote management through the MyHarvia app. Available in 10kW, 12.5kW, and 15kW to heat rooms from approximately 350 to 750 cubic feet.
The Virta Pro is Harvia's heavy-duty commercial heater for the largest sauna rooms — spas, hotels, resort facilities, and large fitness centers. It delivers 16kW or 20kW of heating power for rooms up to 1,130 cubic feet. The heating elements are divided into two independent groups so one group can be serviced while the other continues operating — critical for facilities where downtime means lost revenue. Like the Club, the Virta Pro pairs with a Xenio digital controller with WiFi, enabling staff to preheat the sauna, monitor temperatures, and adjust settings remotely from anywhere in the facility. Floor-standing installation with stainless steel construction throughout.
The Cilindro Half is a pillar-style heater with an open outer casing that exposes a large stone surface — it holds significantly more stones than a comparably rated wall-mounted heater, which produces softer, more even heat and better steam when water is poured. The Cilindro works well in mid-size commercial saunas (boutique studios, smaller spas, apartment amenity rooms) where the pillar design doubles as a visual centerpiece. Available with built-in controls (6–9kW) or external Xenio digital controller with WiFi (6–11kW). Wall-adjacent or corner installation with a compact floor footprint.
Small commercial saunas (4–6 people, ~250–400 cu. ft.) — The Cilindro Half 6–9kW handles these rooms efficiently while adding visual appeal. Good for boutique wellness studios and apartment amenity saunas. Mid-size commercial saunas (6–8 people, ~400–700 cu. ft.) — The Harvia Club 10–15kW is the standard choice. Reliable, affordable, built for 24-hour operation. This is what most gym saunas use. Large commercial saunas (8–12+ people, ~700–1,130 cu. ft.) — The Virta Pro 16–20kW is the only option with enough power. Dual heating element groups and WiFi control make it ideal for high-end facilities.

Controller choice matters more in commercial settings than residential because you need to balance ease of operation with preventing unauthorized adjustments:
Analog controller with tamperproof cover — The simplest, most reliable option for gyms. Staff sets the temperature and timer, locks the cover, and members can't change settings. No WiFi, no app, no connectivity to maintain. Best for fitness centers where the sauna runs on a fixed schedule. Xenio digital controller with WiFi — Touchscreen panel with MyHarvia app integration. Allows remote start/stop, scheduling, temperature monitoring, and delayed start from any device. Best for spas, hotels, and facilities where staff need to manage the sauna from a front desk or control room. Read our MyHarvia WiFi App Setup Guide for configuration details.
Technically, smaller commercial saunas can use residential-rated heaters if the room size falls within the heater's range. However, residential heaters are not designed for continuous daily operation and will wear out significantly faster in commercial environments. The Harvia Club and Virta Pro use heavier-gauge elements and construction specifically rated for 24-hour operation. For a facility that plans to run the sauna during all business hours, commercial-rated heaters pay for themselves in longevity alone.
Not necessarily — they require whatever your building provides. Commercial buildings typically have 208V/3PH, and the heaters in this collection are available in that configuration. If your commercial space uses 240V/1PH (some smaller studios and converted residential buildings do), the same heater models are available in 240V single-phase versions. The key is matching the heater's voltage rating to your existing electrical service. Your electrician can verify your building's configuration.
Commercial saunas in public facilities need to address accessibility requirements including door width, bench height, clear floor space, and heater guard rails. We've published a detailed ADA Considerations for Commercial Saunas compliance guide that covers the specific requirements. Heater placement and guard rail installation are part of this — wall-mounted Club heaters with safety rails are the most common ADA-compliant configuration.
Use our Commercial Sauna ROI Calculator to estimate payback period based on your membership pricing, expected usage, and installation costs. Most gym owners report that a sauna increases membership retention and allows for premium pricing tiers that offset the investment within 12–18 months.
