Is the design fee refundable? +

The design fee covers professional planning and design work, so it is non-refundable once work begins. If you move forward with a materials purchase through us, the full design fee is credited toward your order.

How does the credit toward materials work? +

If you proceed with purchasing materials through Haven of Heat, your design fee is applied as a credit toward that materials order. In other words, the design fee is not “lost” when you move forward.

What exactly will I receive? +

You’ll receive a custom sauna plan and a complete, organized materials quote based on your space and goals. Typical deliverables include:

Recommended layout and bench configuration
Bench height guidance for a proper heat zone
Heater sizing and placement recommendations
Ventilation strategy (fresh air + even heat)
Lighting layout recommendations (optional upgrades)
A complete materials list and quote you can order from in one coordinated purchase

How long does the process take? +

Most customers receive an initial custom design and materials quote within about 1-2 weeks. Timelines can vary slightly depending on current demand, complexity, and how quickly we receive your measurements and preferences.

Do you design both indoor and outdoor saunas? +

Yes — with an important distinction. We specialize in designing sauna interiors for both indoor spaces and for existing outdoor structures (for example, a shed, outbuilding, pool house, or framed enclosure you already have).

For a true ground-up outdoor build, you will need to design and build the exterior structure. We’re happy to review your proposed structure and provide input to ensure it will function well as a sauna (insulation approach, clearances, ventilation strategy, and layout feasibility).

If you’d prefer to simplify the outdoor portion, we also offer prefab outdoor sauna kits that can reduce complexity and often lower the total cost versus building an outdoor sauna from scratch.

Can you design traditional Finnish, infrared, or hybrid saunas? +

Yes. We can design traditional Finnish sauna builds (electric or wood-fired), infrared sauna builds, and hybrid concepts depending on your goals and space.

What do you need from me to get started? +

After checkout, you’ll fill out a short form. The more detail you provide, the better the outcome. Helpful items include:

Room dimensions (and ceiling height)
Indoor vs. outdoor location
Preferred sauna type (traditional, infrared, hybrid)
Wood preferences (classic or thermo/exotic)
Any inspiration photos or must-have features
Electrical service info if known (optional)

Will you help with heater sizing and electrical considerations? +

We provide guidance on heater sizing and typical electrical requirements based on your room size and heater selection. Final electrical installation should be completed by a licensed electrician and follow local code requirements.

Can you work with my contractor or builder? +

Absolutely. Many customers use our plans and materials lists to coordinate with their contractor, builder, or designer.

Can I request upgrades like salt walls or premium lighting? +

Yes. We can design optional upgrades like salt walls, accent lighting, under-bench lighting, and app-controlled LED systems, as well as premium material selections depending on your goals.

What if I change my mind or want revisions? +

If you want adjustments to the layout, features, or materials, we’ll work with you to refine the design so it matches your vision. Large scope changes may require additional time.

Is this service for new builds only, or remodels too? +

Both. We can help with brand-new sauna builds and remodels/upgrades where you’re replacing materials, benches, heaters, lighting, or adding features.
