A sauna with WiFi lets you preheat your sauna, adjust temperature, and schedule sessions from your phone — so the sauna is ready when you are, not 30–45 minutes after you decide you want one. Every sauna in this collection includes app-based control, either through built-in WiFi on the sauna's control panel or through a WiFi-enabled heater controller. The convenience factor is straightforward: start heating from the couch, the gym, or on the drive home, and step into a fully warmed sauna the moment you arrive.
Infrared saunas with WiFi control let you manage your session remotely through a smartphone app. Since infrared saunas heat up faster than traditional models (typically 10–20 minutes vs. 30–45 minutes), WiFi control is less about preheat time and more about dialing in your settings before you arrive — temperature, session duration, and in some cases lighting and panel configuration.

Traditional saunas (electric heater + sauna stones) gain WiFi control through the heater's controller, not through the sauna cabin itself. The most common scenario is an Auroom or other traditional sauna cabin paired with a WiFi-enabled electric heater from Harvia, HUUM, or Saunum. The WiFi functionality comes from the heater's controller — not the cabin — but the result is the same: full remote control from your phone.
How WiFi works for each heater brand:
Harvia — Uses the MyHarvia app. The app controls temperature, timer, delayed start (up to 12 hours), lighting, ventilation, and door sensor monitoring. Works with Xenio digital controllers. Smart safety features prevent remote start if the door is open or objects are on the heater. HUUM — Uses the UKU app. Similar remote control for temperature, timer, and scheduling. In addition to standard temperature and timer controls, Saunum's Climate Equalizer technology actively circulates air for even heat distribution — and the WiFi controller manages this system remotely.
Traditional saunas take 30–45 minutes to reach operating temperature (170–200°F). Without WiFi, that means walking to the sauna, turning on the heater, and waiting — or planning ahead with a delayed-start timer. With WiFi control, you tap "start" on your phone and the sauna preheats while you finish your workout, wrap up dinner, or drive home. By the time you're ready, the sauna is at full temperature. For daily sauna users, this eliminates the biggest friction point in maintaining a consistent routine. Many people who install WiFi-controlled heaters report using their sauna significantly more often simply because the barrier to "starting a session" drops to zero.
Infrared saunas heat up faster, so the preheat advantage is smaller — but WiFi still adds convenience for scheduling regular sessions, monitoring temperature from another room, and ensuring the sauna shuts off automatically if you forget.
For traditional saunas, yes — if your heater brand supports a WiFi controller upgrade. Harvia offers a standalone WiFi module that connects to compatible Xenio controllers. HUUM's UKU controller includes WiFi by default. If your heater has a basic built-in knob controller with no external controller support, you would need to replace the heater or add a compatible external controller. For infrared saunas, WiFi is either built into the control panel at the factory or it isn't — there's no aftermarket upgrade path for most models.
The sauna controller needs a reliable connection to your home WiFi network. For indoor saunas, your existing home router typically provides adequate coverage. For outdoor saunas (backyard, garage, detached building), you may need a WiFi extender or mesh network node to ensure a stable connection. The sauna itself doesn't consume much bandwidth — it's just sending small data packets for temperature readings and commands.
WiFi-enabled controllers include safety features specifically for remote operation. Harvia's MyHarvia app includes a smart safety device that requires the sauna door to be closed and a physical button press before remote start can be activated. HUUM's UKU controller has similar safety protocols. All controllers have automatic shutoff timers (typically 1–12 hours depending on the model) and overheat protection that functions regardless of how the heater was started.
