Harvia Electric Sauna Heaters

Harvia Electric Sauna Heaters

Harvia Electric Sauna Heaters

Harvia is the world's largest sauna heater manufacturer, headquartered in Finland with over 70 years of production history. When you see a heater in a Finnish public sauna, a hotel spa in Scandinavia, or a gym sauna anywhere in the world, there's a strong chance it's a Harvia. We carry their full electric heater lineup — from the compact 1.7 kW Vega for small rooms to commercial-grade floor-standing units for large installations — along with the Harvia accessories, controllers, and replacement parts to support them. Harvia heaters are known for Finnish build quality, broad size coverage (virtually every sauna room has a Harvia model that fits), and the MyHarvia WiFi ecosystem that connects heater control to your phone.

Wall-Mounted: KIP Series

The Harvia KIP is the most popular wall-mounted electric sauna heater in our catalog and one of the most widely installed residential sauna heaters in the world. Compact enough to mount on the wall at bench height, the KIP fits rooms from approximately 106 to 425 cubic feet depending on the kW model (4.5 kW, 6 kW, and 8 kW). It comes in two configurations: a built-in controller version with integrated knob controls (temperature and timer dials on the heater body — simple, no wiring to a separate panel) and an external digital controller version with the Xenio digital control unit mounted outside the sauna and WiFi capability through the MyHarvia app. Both configurations ship with sauna stones included.

The KIP is the right choice for most residential saunas — it mounts on the wall to save floor space, heats small to mid-size rooms efficiently, and the built-in controller version is the simplest possible installation (240V wiring to the heater, mount, done). The external controller version adds WiFi pre-heat from your phone and precise digital temperature control. For a detailed breakdown of which configuration fits your build, read our Harvia KIP vs Spirit guide or our broader Harvia Electric Heaters: Which Model Is Right for You guide

Floor-Standing: Spirit

The Harvia Spirit is a floor-standing heater available in 6 kW and 8 kW models. It sits on the floor rather than mounting on the wall, which gives it a larger stone bed — more thermal mass means more heat storage and more steam per water pour. The Spirit is the step up from the KIP when you want better löyly performance: the larger stone surface area accepts more water and produces thicker, more sustained steam. It's available as a standalone heater or as a complete package that includes the Xenio digital controller with WiFi and sauna stones — everything you need to install.

The Spirit's floor-standing design also means it works in rooms where wall mounting isn't practical — freestanding sauna builds, rooms with non-standard wall materials, or installations where you want the heater centered rather than against a wall. For rooms over 300 cubic feet, the Spirit's larger stone capacity makes a noticeable difference in steam quality compared to a wall-mounted heater of the same wattage. Read our Spirit vs HUUM Drop comparison if you're deciding between the two most popular floor-standing heaters in this class.

Compact: Vega

The Harvia Vega Compact is designed for the smallest sauna rooms — models from 1.7 kW to 3.5 kW cover rooms from approximately 45 to 175 cubic feet. The 1.7 kW and 1.9 kW models run on 120V (standard household outlet), making the Vega one of the few traditional electric sauna heaters that doesn't require 240V wiring. This makes it ideal for plug-in sauna builds, apartment saunas, small closet conversions, and DIY projects where running a 240V circuit isn't possible or practical. The 3.5 kW model steps up to 240V for slightly larger rooms. Built-in controls with temperature and timer knobs keep the installation simple.

Cylindrical: Cilindro Half Series

The Harvia Cilindro Half is a cylindrical floor-standing heater that mounts against a wall — it has a flat back so it sits flush. The cylindrical design holds a large volume of stones relative to its footprint, and the stone mass wraps around the heating elements for efficient heat transfer. Available in higher kW models for mid-size to large rooms, the Cilindro Half is a popular choice for custom sauna builds where stone capacity and löyly quality are priorities but floor space is limited. Available as a complete package with the Xenio digital controller, WiFi, and stones. For a detailed comparison of the Cilindro against Harvia's other floor-standing option, read our Cilindro vs Club guide.

Large Rooms: Club

The Harvia Club is a floor-standing heater built for large sauna rooms — commercial gyms, spas, large residential builds, and any installation where you need high kW output and a massive stone bed. The Club holds significantly more stones than the Spirit or Cilindro, which translates to more thermal mass, faster temperature recovery after door openings, and the ability to sustain heavy löyly sessions with a group pouring water frequently. Available as a complete package with the Xenio digital controller, WiFi, and stones. The Club is the go-to Harvia heater for rooms over 400 cubic feet and for any application that demands continuous or high-duty-cycle operation.

MyHarvia WiFi and Controls

Harvia's digital ecosystem centers on the Xenio controller and the MyHarvia app. The Xenio is an external digital control panel that mounts outside the sauna — it provides precise temperature setting, timer programming, and connects to WiFi for remote control through the MyHarvia smartphone app (iOS and Android). With the app, you can start the heater from your phone, set target temperature, program schedules, and monitor the sauna in real time. The KIP with external controller, Spirit package, Cilindro Half package, and Club package all include the Xenio with WiFi capability.

For heaters purchased without the Xenio controller (like the KIP built-in controller version), the Harvia WiFi upgrade module can be added later to enable app control. For a complete walkthrough of the app and its features, read our MyHarvia WiFi App Expert Guide

Heater Sizing

Choosing the right Harvia heater starts with your room's cubic footage (length × width × height in feet). As a general guide: the Vega covers 45–175 cu ft, the KIP covers 106–425 cu ft, the Spirit covers 175–425 cu ft, the Cilindro Half covers 250–500+ cu ft, and the Club covers 400–700+ cu ft. Glass doors, windows, uninsulated surfaces, and stone or tile walls all increase the effective volume — our heater sizing calculator accounts for these adjustment factors and recommends the correct kW rating for your specific room. If you're building from scratch, our electrical requirements guide covers circuit sizing, breaker ratings, and wire gauge for each kW range.

Harvia vs Other Brands

Harvia competes primarily with HUUM (Estonian, modern design, the popular Drop wall-mount heater) and Saunum (Estonian, unique air-mixing technology that equalizes temperature throughout the room). All three are high-quality European manufacturers. Harvia's advantages are the widest model range (from 1.7 kW to commercial scale), the most extensive parts and accessory availability, and the MyHarvia WiFi ecosystem. HUUM's advantage is design — the Drop is one of the best-looking wall-mounted heaters available. Saunum's advantage is the Airflow technology that eliminates the hot-ceiling/cool-floor temperature gradient common in traditional saunas. For detailed comparisons, read our guides: HUUM vs Harvia and Harvia vs Saunum.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Harvia heater should I get — KIP or Spirit?

For rooms under 300 cubic feet where wall space is available and you want the simplest installation, the KIP is the better choice. For rooms over 300 cubic feet, or if you prioritize steam quality and don't mind a floor-standing unit, the Spirit's larger stone bed produces better löyly. Both are available with WiFi. Our KIP vs Spirit guide covers every difference in detail.

Do Harvia heaters come with stones?

The KIP models and all complete heater packages (Spirit, Cilindro Half, Club) include sauna stones. If you purchase a standalone heater without a package, stones are sold separately in our sauna stones collection. Harvia recommends their own vulcanite stones, but any high-quality sauna stone (olivine diabase, peridotite, vulcanite) works.

Can I add WiFi to a Harvia heater later?

Yes. If you buy a KIP with built-in controls (no Xenio), you can add the WiFi upgrade module later to enable MyHarvia app control. Heaters purchased with the Xenio digital controller already include WiFi capability — you just need to connect the module and download the app. Our MyHarvia app guide walks through setup.

Are Harvia replacement parts available?

Yes — we carry a full inventory of Harvia replacement parts including heating elements, thermostats, timers, temperature sensors, circuit boards, and control panels. Harvia heaters are designed for long-term serviceability — individual components can be replaced without replacing the entire heater. Heating elements are the most common replacement part and are straightforward to swap with basic tools.
