A 2-person sauna is the most popular size for home use. It's large enough for two people to sit side-by-side or for one person to sit with room to shift positions and stretch, but compact enough to fit in a spare room, garage, bathroom, backyard corner, or apartment. The 2-person format is the sweet spot where you get meaningful interior space without the cost, footprint, and electrical demands of a larger cabin. Most of the top-selling home saunas — both infrared and traditional — are built in this size. This collection spans indoor infrared cabins, outdoor traditional models, and hybrid saunas that combine both technologies.
Indoor infrared cabins are the largest category in the 2-person segment. They plug into a standard 120V outlet (most models) or a 240V circuit (some larger configurations), heat up in 10–20 minutes, and deliver infrared therapy in a permanent wooden enclosure that fits indoors. The brands represented heavily in this size are Dynamic Saunas, Golden Designs, Maxxus, Finnmark Designs.
Dynamic Saunas offers the widest selection of 2-person infrared cabins at multiple price and feature tiers. The Santiago line (available in low-EMF, ultra-low EMF, and full spectrum near-zero EMF versions) is one of the best-selling 2-person infrared saunas on the market. The Cordoba, Gracia, and Vittoria models offer different configurations, panel layouts, and wood options. Dynamic builds in Canadian hemlock with carbon heating panels and includes Bluetooth, chromotherapy, and digital controls across the lineup. The tiered EMF approach — from standard low-EMF to ultra-low EMF to near-zero EMF full spectrum — lets you choose the level of EMF reduction that matches your priority and budget.
Finnmark Designs FD-KN002 is a 2-person full spectrum infrared cabin with FSC-certified antimicrobial Canadian Red Cedar, integrated chromatherapy, WiFi control, and Finnmark's proprietary infrared panel technology. FSC certification means the wood sourcing is third-party verified for sustainability — a detail that matters to eco-conscious buyers. Finnmark also offers the FD-KN004, a 2-person hybrid sauna that combines full spectrum infrared panels, a traditional electric heater with stones for löyly steam, and red light therapy in a single cabin — three modalities in one unit. The FD-KN004 is one of the most versatile 2-person saunas available: infrared-only sessions, traditional steam sessions, or both simultaneously.
If you want a traditional sauna experience — hot stones, löyly steam, 170–200°F air temperatures — in a 2-person format, SaunaLife builds compact outdoor cube saunas that fit the footprint. The CL3G (1–2 person, 4.2 feet long) is one of the smallest full-featured traditional saunas you can buy — it comes with a traditional electric heater, stones, and a thermally treated wood exterior designed for year-round outdoor use. It's a legitimate Finnish-style sauna in a space barely larger than a phone booth. For a slightly larger option with more shoulder room, the CL4G (2–3 person) adds about a foot of width. Both ship flat-packed and assemble in a few hours. These pair with any electric sauna heater sized for the room volume, or can use the included heater.
The Durasage 2-Person is the most affordable 2-person infrared sauna in the collection — a low-EMF far infrared cabin with Canadian hemlock construction at a price point significantly below the Dynamic and Maxxus models. It doesn't have full spectrum infrared or red light therapy, but it delivers far infrared therapy in a well-built enclosure at the lowest cost of entry for a 2-person cabin. If you want to try infrared before investing in a premium model, or if your budget is firm, this is the pragmatic choice.
Infrared or traditional? Infrared heats your body directly with radiant energy at lower air temperatures (120–150°F), is faster to heat, uses less power, and requires no ventilation or drain. Traditional heats the air and stones to 170–200°F for a higher-heat experience with löyly steam — more intense, more authentic to Finnish tradition, but requires a 240V circuit and more installation planning. Hybrid gives you both in one cabin. For an honest comparison, read our sauna comparison guides in the learning center.
Indoor or outdoor? Most 2-person infrared cabins are indoor models (hemlock or cedar, not weather-rated). If you want outdoor placement, look at SaunaLife's cube saunas (built for weather) or outdoor infrared saunas with weather-rated construction. Placing an indoor-rated cabin outside will void the warranty and degrade the wood.
EMF level. If EMF matters to you, the range in this collection goes from standard low-EMF (Dynamic base models) to ultra-low EMF (Dynamic Elite models) to near-zero EMF (Dynamic full spectrum, Maxxus, and Golden Designs). Higher EMF reduction generally costs more. Our guides on low-EMF, ultra-low EMF, and near-zero EMF infrared explain the differences and testing standards.
Red light therapy. If you want integrated red light, focus on Golden Designs, Maxxus (Ceiling mounted medical-grade panels), Finnmark (integrated panels with WiFi), or Dynamic full spectrum models with red light add-ons. Alternatively, you can add a standalone red light therapy panel to any sauna after purchase.
Typically 6–12 inches of additional width and 15–30% more interior volume. A 2-person cabin lets two adults sit side-by-side, or one person sit with room to adjust positions, lean, or place items beside them. The extra width also means more wall space for infrared panels — so a 2-person often has better infrared coverage than a 1-person, even for solo use. The tradeoff is a larger footprint (typically 4×4 feet vs. 3×4 feet) and slightly higher price. If you have the space, a 2-person is the better value for a solo user.
Most 2-person infrared cabins run on 120V and plug into a standard household outlet drawing 1,200–1,800 watts. Some larger or higher-powered 2-person models may require 240V — always check the electrical specs for the specific model. Traditional 2-person saunas with electric stone heaters always require a 240V hardwired circuit. Read our Home Sauna Electrical Requirements guide for the full picture.
If your bathroom has a 4×4-foot open area (or more), yes. Many 2-person infrared cabins are designed specifically for bathroom placement. They need no plumbing, no drain, and no special ventilation — just floor space and an outlet. Finnmark Designs FD-4 includes the largest XL medical-grade red light panels in the 2-person category — more surface area and higher irradiance than competitors with the added benefit of FSC-certified wood and WiFi control. For the strongest dedicated red light with the best-in-class panels, Finnmark's hybrid is unmatched.
