Cube Saunas

Cube Saunas

Cube Saunas — SaunaLife Cube-Series Outdoor Sauna Kits

Cube saunas are compact, flat-roofed outdoor saunas with a clean geometric shape and a full glass front wall. They look modern, take up less yard space than most cabin or barrel saunas, and deliver a genuine traditional steam sauna experience with an electric heater and proper two-tier benching. The cube saunas on this page are all from the SaunaLife Cube-Series — available in four sizes from a 1–2 person solo sauna to a 6-person social sauna. All models are built from 1.7-inch thick thermo-spruce with Scandinavian design and engineering. Free shipping on every order, 0% APR financing available.

What Makes the Cube-Series Different

Thermo-spruce construction — Every SaunaLife Cube is built from thermally modified Nordic spruce. Thermo-treatment kiln-dries the wood at extreme temperatures, permanently altering its cellular structure to resist rot, insects, warping, and moisture absorption. SaunaLife states their thermo-spruce lasts 1.5 times longer than Western Red Cedar — the standard wood in most outdoor saunas. The 1.7-inch thick walls also provide better insulation and thermal mass than the thinner staves used in most barrel saunas, meaning faster heat-up, better heat retention, and less energy waste.

Full glass front — All Cube models feature an expansive 8mm tempered bronze-tinted glass front wall. This opens up the interior visually (the sauna feels much larger than its footprint), lets natural light in, and connects you to the outdoors while maintaining heat and privacy. The bronze tint provides a degree of privacy from the outside during the day.

Thermo-aspen interior — The benches and backrests are crafted from thermo-aspen, a light-colored hardwood that stays cool to the touch even at high sauna temperatures. The backrests are ergonomically contoured and arched for comfortable long sessions, whether sitting upright or reclining.

Included features — Every Cube sauna ships with a double-layer asphalt shingle roof with drip edges, integrated LED lighting (Wi-Fi enabled, dimmable, 24V DC low-voltage), floor drains, wall vents, and pre-installed bench framing. The heater is sold separately so you can choose the brand and output that fits your preference.

Model Comparison

CL3G — 1–2 Person — The entry point. At 4.2 feet long, this is SaunaLife's most compact cube sauna and one of the most affordable outdoor saunas on the market with genuine two-tier benching and thermo-treated wood. It fits in tight spaces — small backyards, side yards, even inside a garage. One person can lie down on the upper bench; two can sit comfortably. Pairs with a 6kW electric heater. If you want a real outdoor sauna experience on a smaller budget and footprint, this is where to start.

CL4G — 3 Person — At 4.1 feet long (slightly wider than the CL3G to accommodate more bench space), this model seats 2–3 on the upper bench or allows one person to lie down. Benches face the glass front, creating an open feel. Also pairs with a 6kW or 8kW heater. The CL4G is the sweet spot if you want a compact sauna that can comfortably host a couple plus a guest.

CL5G — 4 Person — At 4.6 feet long, the CL5G adds a front bench in addition to the upper bench, expanding capacity to 4 people. The upper bench provides 6'3" of bench length — enough for most adults to lie down. Forward-facing bench layout like the CL3G and CL4G. Compatible with 6kW or 8kW heaters, though the 8kW is recommended for cold climates or if you prefer faster heat-up and higher peak temperatures. This is the best-selling SaunaLife Cube model.

CL7G — 6 Person — The largest Cube at 7.6 feet long and over 7 feet of interior height. Unlike the smaller models, the CL7G has an L-shaped or facing bench layout — benches along both sides — making it a social sauna built for groups. Seats up to 3 people per bench. The larger volume requires an 8kW heater for even heat distribution. If you're looking for a modern outdoor sauna that can host a family or group, this is the one.

Heater Selection

SaunaLife Cube saunas are sold without a heater so you can choose the brand and model that fits your preference. For cube saunas, a wall-mounted or floor-standing electric heater in the 6–8kW range is standard. Popular pairings include the Harvia KIP 8kW, HUUM DROP 7.5kW, and Harvia Cilindro Half Series — all of which we carry in complete heater packages with controller, stones, and wiring included.

Sizing guidance: the CL3G and CL4G work well with a 6kW heater. The CL5G works with 6kW or 8kW (8kW recommended in cold climates). The CL7G should use an 8kW heater. Use our heater sizing calculator to confirm, or call us at (360) 233-2867 and we'll recommend a specific heater for your model and climate.

Wood-burning stoves are also compatible with Cube saunas if you prefer a wood-fired experience or don't have electrical access. Browse our wood-burning sauna stoves for options.

Cube vs. Barrel vs. Cabin

Cube vs. barrel — Cube saunas have flat walls that maximize interior space and make accessory installation straightforward, plus the full glass front is a distinctive design feature that barrel saunas can't easily replicate. Barrel saunas heat faster due to natural convection from the curved walls and are generally less expensive at the same person capacity. If modern aesthetics and interior space are priorities, go cube. If heating efficiency and value are priorities, consider a barrel sauna. That said, the thicker 1.7-inch thermo-spruce walls on the Cube-Series partially close the insulation gap.

Cube vs. cabin — Cube saunas are essentially a subcategory of cabin saunas (rectangular, flat walls), but with a more compact, modern design language. Traditional cabin saunas from Dundalk and True North tend to be larger, offer changeroom and porch add-ons, and have a more rustic aesthetic. Cube saunas sacrifice those options for a cleaner contemporary look, a smaller footprint, and the full glass front that defines the series.

Installation

Assembly — SaunaLife Cube saunas ship as flat-pack DIY kits. They're designed for assembly by two people with basic tools. The thermo-spruce staves interlock, and all structural components, roofing, glass, benches, and lighting are included. Assembly typically takes a day for the smaller models and a weekend for the CL7G.

Foundation — Like any outdoor sauna, you need a flat, level surface. Gravel pads, concrete pads, paver patios, and reinforced decks all work. The compact footprint of the CL3G, CL4G, and CL5G means they fit on most existing patios or deck areas without modification. See our outdoor sauna foundation guide.

Electrical — You'll need a dedicated 240V circuit run to the sauna location for the electric heater. A licensed electrician should handle this. The LED lighting runs on a separate low-voltage 24V DC system and does not require a dedicated circuit.

Placement — Check local setback requirements for structures near property lines and fences. The compact footprint of the smaller Cube models often keeps them under the square footage thresholds that trigger building permits, but this varies by municipality. See our HOA and permit guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size Cube sauna should I get?

For solo use or couples, the CL3G or CL4G — both are compact and affordable. For a couple plus occasional guests, the CL5G is the most versatile choice and the best seller in the series. For families or regular group use, the CL7G with its facing bench layout is designed for social bathing. When in doubt, go one size up — extra interior space improves the experience and doesn't add much to the footprint.

Can I put a Cube sauna in my garage or indoors?

The CL3G in particular is popular as an indoor/garage sauna because of its compact footprint. Any Cube model can work indoors as long as you have adequate ceiling height, proper ventilation, moisture management, and the appropriate electrical service. Read our moisture prevention guide before installing a sauna indoors.

How long does a Cube sauna take to heat up?

With a properly sized electric heater (6–8kW), expect 30–45 minutes to reach 175–195°F depending on outside temperature and the specific model. The thick thermo-spruce walls insulate well and hold heat once at temperature, so the sauna maintains steady heat throughout your session with minimal energy use.

Do I need to stain or treat a thermo-spruce sauna?

The thermal modification process makes the wood inherently resistant to rot and decay, so it doesn't require treatment for durability the way raw cedar does. That said, UV exposure will eventually gray the exterior if left untreated. Applying a UV-protective exterior oil or stain every 1–2 years keeps the original warm brown color. See our outdoor sauna staining guide for recommended products.

What's the difference between SaunaLife Cube saunas and SaunaLife barrel saunas?

Shape and interior layout. The Cube-Series has flat walls, a flat roof, and a full glass front — modern design with maximum usable interior space. SaunaLife's Ergo barrel saunas have a curved profile that heats efficiently and costs less at equivalent person capacity, but the curved walls reduce usable seating width and don't accommodate a glass front. Both use the same thermo-spruce construction and similar build quality.
