Heater Installation

Can you pour water on the heaters for steam?

Yes — you can for all of our electric and wood-burning sauna heaters. These heaters use sauna stones that can withstand water being ladled over them to produce steam and boost humidity.

Important: Never pour water on infrared sauna heaters. Heaters with larger stone capacities are better for lots of steam production as it doesn't cool down the stones as much.

Are sauna heaters plug-in or hardwired?

99% of traditional electric sauna heaters are 240 Volt and require hardwiring by a licensed electrician. Some smaller 120V models may plug into a standard outlet, but these are intended only for very compact saunas. Always check the product specifications for electrical requirements.

Smaller infrared saunas and heaters typically run on 120V plug-in connections. Wood-fired sauna heaters require no electricity at all.

Do sauna heaters come with stones?

We sell sauna heaters either separately or as part of complete packages that include the heater, stones, and controller. Check the product page description — if it says “package” or mentions “stones,” it’s included. You can also look under the “Includes” tab in the product description for full details.

Best place to hire an electrician for sauna heater installation?

The best places to find a licensed electrician include:

  • Angi – Verified reviews, cost estimates, and easy booking.
  • HomeAdvisor – Background-checked pros specializing in sauna installs.
  • Thumbtack – Transparent pricing and direct messaging with pros.
  • Google & Yelp – Search “licensed electrician near me” and verify manually.
  • NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) – Ideal for commercial sauna projects.

Estimated cost: $200 to $1,500 depending on wiring, distance to panel, and permit requirements.

Do you offer installation services or white glove delivery?

We do not offer white glove or in-house installation. All deliveries are curbside only. That said, we provide detailed installation instructions and a Sauna Installer Database with pros our customers have successfully used.

Do you have sauna installers on staff?

No, we do not have in-house installers. However, we maintain a Sauna Installer Database that lists experienced sauna professionals across the U.S. who have successfully worked with our customers. Visit the header of our website and click “Resources” to access the Sauna Installer Database link.

Where to rent a crane or forklift for unloading large saunas?

For pre-assembled or oversized crate deliveries, forklifts or cranes may be required. Top rental providers include:

  • United Rentals
  • Sunbelt Rentals
  • Herc Rentals
  • BigRentz
  • The Home Depot Rental
  • Maxim Crane Works
  • EquipmentShare
  • RentalYard

Tips:

  • Measure your unloading space and sauna crate dimensions.
  • Check the lift capacity vs. sauna weight.
  • Hire a certified operator if you’re not trained.
  • Confirm insurance coverage for the rental period.
  • Reserve the equipment early to avoid delays.

Sauna Types

What is the difference between infrared and traditional saunas?

Infrared saunas warm the body directly using radiant heat, typically at lower air temperatures (120°F–150°F). They're great for longer, more comfortable sessions and are energy efficient. Most infrared models plug into a standard outlet, making them ideal for home use.

Traditional saunas heat the air inside the room using an electric or wood-burning heater with sauna stones. Temperatures can reach 160°F–200°F and allow users to pour water over the rocks to create steam, producing a high-heat, humidity-rich experience.

Recommendation: Infrared is great for beginners or detox goals. Traditional is best for those who want that classic high-heat and steam-rich sauna session. Hybrid saunas provide both.

What are hybrid saunas?

Hybrid saunas combine both infrared and traditional heat. They have full-spectrum infrared panels for radiant heat and an electric heater with sauna stones for high-temperature, steam-based heating.

This offers flexibility — you can run the sauna in infrared-only mode, traditional mode, or both. They’re perfect for households where one person prefers steam and another prefers lower heat.

Many models from Finnmark Designs and Golden Designs are hybrid-compatible.

Infrared & EMF

What is the difference between NEAR, MID and FAR Infrared and what is Full Spectrum?

FAR Infrared: Has the longest wavelength and penetrates the deepest into the body tissue, reaching the adipose (fat) layer and activating the sweat glands — one of the body’s key methods for toxin elimination.

MID Infrared: Penetrates soft tissue and muscles, promoting improved blood circulation and helping relieve muscle and joint pain.

NEAR Infrared: Has the shortest wavelength and penetrates just under the skin, promoting cell regeneration, inflammation reduction, and rejuvenation of skin tissue.

Full Spectrum: Combines NEAR, MID, and FAR infrared in a single system. This delivers complete wellness benefits — deep detox, pain relief, skin health, and circulation — all in one sauna session.

What is EMF and how do your saunas compare?

EMF (Electromagnetic Field) is naturally emitted by all electrical devices. While all infrared heaters generate some EMF, our saunas use low-EMF technology to minimize exposure.

  • Low EMF (6–10 mG): Safe and affordable for most wellness users.
  • Ultra Low EMF (Under 3 mG): Lower exposure level, suitable for health-conscious users.
  • Near Zero EMF (Under 2 mG): Ideal for EMF-sensitive individuals or those seeking the absolute safest option available.

All models we carry fall within safe exposure thresholds. Finnmark Designs leads the industry in EMF mitigation with fully shielded systems.

Are saunas safe for children or older adults?

Yes, but sessions should be shorter and cooler. Always supervise children and consult a healthcare provider for seniors or anyone with cardiovascular concerns. Infrared saunas are typically more comfortable for beginners and sensitive users.

Can I use a sauna with a medical condition?

We recommend consulting your doctor before sauna use if you have heart conditions, high blood pressure, or are pregnant. Saunas are generally safe for healthy adults, but professional guidance is best if you're managing a medical issue.

How long should a sauna session last?

Typical sessions are 15–45 minutes. Beginners should start with shorter sessions and gradually build up. Always stay hydrated and exit the sauna if you feel dizzy or uncomfortable.

What are the health benefits of using a sauna?

Regular sauna use can improve circulation, reduce muscle soreness, promote detoxification through sweating, relieve stress, and support cardiovascular health. Some users also report better sleep and skin clarity with consistent use.

Red Light Therapy

Do you sell saunas with red light therapy?

Yes, we offer red light therapy in saunas from Dynamic, Golden Designs, Maxxus, and Finnmark Designs. These models include built-in ceiling-mounted red light panels that can be toggled on/off during your session.

Finnmark stands out with medical-grade LEDs and broader panel coverage, offering industry-leading therapeutic performance. This combination allows you to enjoy both sauna heat and light therapy in one unit.

Can you put the red light therapy panels you sell inside a sauna?

Yes — we offer two red light panel models specifically rated for high-heat environments. These panels can be safely installed inside a sauna without damage or risk of failure. Browse these under the “Red Light > Panels for Inside Saunas” section of our website.

Red Light vs Infrared Light Therapy in Saunas: What’s the Difference?

Red Light Therapy uses visible red wavelengths (630–660nm) to target the surface of the skin. It promotes skin repair, collagen production, and inflammation reduction.

Infrared Therapy uses invisible light to generate heat that penetrates into muscle and tissue layers. It improves circulation, relieves pain, and stimulates deep detox through sweating.

Combined Benefit: Red light and infrared complement each other, allowing you to heal surface tissue while supporting deeper detox and recovery.

How far should I stand from the red light panel?

For optimal benefit, we recommend standing 6–12 inches away from the panel. Sessions typically last 10–20 minutes depending on the intensity and your wellness goals.

Do the red light therapy panels require an app or controller?

Most of our panels come with onboard controls or a remote. No app is required. You can set the timer and adjust light intensity directly from the unit or the remote control.

Are your red light therapy panels FDA cleared?

Finnmark, Hooga, and Mito panels use medical-grade LEDs and are third-party tested for safety and performance. While not all models are FDA-cleared, they fall within industry standards for low-risk therapeutic devices. Contact us if you need documentation for HSA/FSA eligibility.

Shipping & Delivery

If I order a sauna, will they bring it to my door or inside my garage?

All saunas are delivered via curbside freight. This means the carrier will bring the sauna to the end of your driveway or the nearest safe drop-off location. Once your sauna reaches the local terminal, the freight company will call to schedule a delivery appointment at your convenience.

What are the lead times on Dundalk saunas?

Dundalk Leisurecraft saunas are custom-built in Ontario, Canada. These high-quality outdoor saunas typically ship in about 4 weeks. The carrier will contact you to coordinate final delivery once the order leaves the factory.

How long do Dynamic, Maxxus, or Golden Designs saunas take to ship?

These brands are stocked in our California warehouse and ship quickly. Most customers receive their sauna within 7 business days of purchase, depending on location.

How long do your sauna heaters take to ship?

Most wall-mounted electric sauna heaters and infrared panels ship from our Chicago warehouse and arrive within 1 week. Larger units, including floor-standing electric heaters and wood-burning stoves, may take 1.5 weeks or more.

Custom Builds & Parts

Do you sell materials for DIY or custom sauna builds?

Yes! We offer a full selection of premium components for indoor and outdoor sauna construction:

How do I add a glass wall to my sauna?

To add a full glass wall or custom-sized sauna window, visit the product titled Tempered Glass for Sauna Walls and Windows (Custom Sizes) under our “Glass Windows & Walls” category.

Fill out the quote form with your desired height and width. We'll send back pricing and shipping estimates tailored to your project.

Do you sell replacement elements for my heater?

Yes. We stock a wide variety of replacement parts including heating elements, sensors, and control units for brands like HUUM, Harvia, Saunum, and more. To browse, go to “Sauna Heaters” in the header and click “Replacement Parts.”

Can I convert my traditional sauna to an infrared sauna?

Yes, you can — and it's easier than you might think.

Traditional saunas heat the air using electric or wood-burning heaters, while infrared saunas use panels that directly heat your body. If you’re looking for quicker warm-up times, lower energy costs, and deeper heat, converting to infrared can be a great upgrade.

How to Convert Your Sauna:

  • Full Infrared Conversion – Remove your traditional heater and install infrared panels around the interior walls.
  • Hybrid Setup – Keep your existing heater and add infrared panels for a combined experience.

What Do I Need?

We recommend using one of our complete Finnmark™ infrared sauna heater kits. These kits come with everything you need: pre-sized panels, a digital controller, mounting hardware, and installation instructions.

Top Recommended Kits:

  • Finnmark Spectrum+™ Ceramic – Heats up to 170°F quickly for those who like high-intensity sessions.
  • Finnmark Spectrum Carbon™ – Smooth, even heat and full-body coverage with low EMF.

Need Help Choosing the Right Fit?

Use our Infrared Heater Selector Tool, located under “Sauna Heaters” → “Infrared Sauna Heaters” in the header. Or request a custom quote based on your sauna’s dimensions.

Maintenance & Accessories

How should I maintain and clean my sauna?

We recommend the following maintenance routine:

  • Use sauna-safe paraffin oil to condition the benches and backrests
  • Wipe surfaces with a damp cloth after each use
  • Use a non-toxic wood-safe cleaner for deep cleans
  • Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals, and pressure washing
  • Periodically check sauna stones for cracks and replace if needed
How long does it take to assemble a sauna?

Most saunas can be assembled by two people in 2–6 hours depending on size. Our kits are pre-cut and partially pre-assembled to make the process easy. Full step-by-step instructions and video guides are available under the “Manuals” or “Resources” tab in the description of each product page.

What are the dimensions of the saunas and heaters?

Dimensions for all products are listed on their individual product pages. Scroll down and click the “Specifications” tab to find full width, depth, height, and weight information.

Cold Plunges

Where can I install a cold plunge?

Cold plunges can be installed indoors or outdoors depending on the model. Most portable units require a nearby outlet and flat surface. Outdoor plunges should be placed on a level, weather-resistant foundation such as concrete, pavers, or treated wood.

Do cold plunges need plumbing or drainage?

Most cold plunges are self-contained and do not require permanent plumbing. They are filled manually with a hose and drained using a built-in drainage port or siphon system. Always refer to the product manual for drainage instructions.

How do I maintain the water in my cold plunge?

Maintenance depends on the type of plunge:

  • Use hydrogen peroxide or a plunge-safe sanitizer to keep water clean.
  • Change water every 2–4 weeks depending on usage and filtration.
  • Some models include UV or micron filtration to extend water life.
What’s the difference between a portable plunge and a built-in one?

Portable plunges are self-contained, movable, and easy to set up. Built-in plunges are often permanent fixtures with integrated plumbing and more robust insulation or filtration systems. We carry both types, with portable options being most popular for home use.

Outdoor Foundations

What’s the best foundation for an outdoor sauna?

A proper foundation ensures your sauna is level, supported, and protected from moisture. We recommend one of the following:

  • Concrete Slab: Best long-term durability, level and stable
  • Gravel Pad: Inexpensive, great for drainage
  • Paver Stones: Decorative and functional
  • Wood Deck or Platform: Raised and rustic; use treated lumber and a vapor barrier
  • Existing Deck: Must be structurally reinforced and level

Himalayan Salt Panels

What are the benefits of Himalayan salt in saunas?

Himalayan salt enhances your sauna both aesthetically and therapeutically:

  • Air Purification: Negative ions neutralize pollutants and allergens
  • Respiratory Health: Helps reduce symptoms of asthma and bronchitis
  • Skin Benefits: Antibacterial and detoxifying properties help with acne and eczema
  • Stress Relief: Warm amber glow creates a calming ambiance
  • Enhanced Detox: Salt assists the body in drawing out impurities

You can install a Scandia Himalayan Salt Wall Panel with LED backlighting inside your sauna to receive these benefits during each session.
