Sauna heater controllers regulate temperature, set operating timers, and in many cases provide WiFi app control for your sauna heater. Some electric sauna heaters have built-in controls (like the Harvia KIP with knobs or the Finlandia FLB-30), but most require a separately purchased external controller. The Harvia Xenio CX170 is a digital touchscreen controller with built-in WiFi for smartphone control through the MyHarvia app. It controls temperature, timer (up to 12 hours with delay start), and sauna lighting from either the wall-mounted touch panel or your phone. The CX170 includes a contactor/power unit — no additional contactor needed for heaters up to 10.5kW. This is the recommended controller for most home sauna setups.
Compatible with: All Harvia KIP (heater-only versions, not built-in control models), Spirit, Club, Cilindro, Virta, and Virta Pro heaters. Also compatible with all Finlandia FIN-series heaters. Available in CX170-U1 (240V/1PH) and CX170-U3 (208V/3PH) versions. The panel can be mounted inside the sauna (below 36" off the floor, away from the heater) or outside in a dressing room, bathroom, or hallway.
The HUUM UKU WiFi is the standard controller for all HUUM electric sauna heaters. It provides temperature control, timer functions, and full WiFi connectivity through the HUUM mobile app. The UKU system includes a wall-mounted control panel and a separate power box. Compatible with: All HUUM electric heaters — DROP, CLIFF, STEEL, CLIFF Mini, STEEL Mini, CORE, HIVE Mini, and HIVE. For HUUM heaters over 10.5kW (HIVE 12/15/18kW), the UKU Extension Box is also required (sold separately).
The UKU Local is functionally the same as the UKU WiFi but without WiFi capability. You control the sauna from the wall-mounted panel only — no app, no remote start. A lower-cost option if you don't need or want smartphone control. Compatible with the same HUUM heaters as the UKU WiFi.
A replacement wall-mounted control panel for the UKU system. Use this if your existing UKU panel is damaged or malfunctioning — it connects to your existing UKU power box without replacing the entire controller system.
Required for HUUM heaters over 10.5kW (HIVE 12kW, 15kW, and 18kW). The extension box adds the additional power handling capacity needed for high-wattage heaters. Connects between the UKU controller and the heater. Not needed for DROP, CLIFF, STEEL, CORE, or HIVE Mini models.
Finlandia FIN-series heaters are sold as heater-only units — every FIN heater requires a separately purchased controller. Finlandia offers three controller options and four contactors. Contactors are power relay boxes required for certain heater/controller combinations (the CX170 includes its own contactor).
CX170 Xenio WiFi — The same Harvia Xenio digital touchscreen described above. The most feature-rich option for Finlandia heaters: WiFi, app control, delay timer, lighting control. Includes built-in contactor. Compatible with all FIN heaters in both 240V and 208V versions.
F1T — An analog wall-mounted control with dial knobs for time and temperature. Simple, no-frills operation. For 240V/1PH FIN heaters up to 6kW only (FIN-30, FIN-45, FIN-60). Does not require a contactor.
F2T — An analog on/off/time/temperature control with a 60-minute timer and light switch. For both 1-phase and 3-phase FIN and Club heaters. Requires a contactor (FX402 for 240V/1PH 8kW, FX303 for 208V/3PH). Compatible with a wider range of heaters than the F1T.
F2 — A commercial-grade on/off/temperature control with no timer. Designed for gyms, spas, and commercial saunas where an attendant is on duty. Requires a contactor. Use with the 24H7D time clock to schedule operating hours.
FX402 — For FIN-80 (8kW) at 240V/1PH with F2T control. Also for FIN-30/45/60/80 with F2 control at 240V/1PH.
FX303 — For all FIN heaters at 208V/3PH with F2T or F2 control.
FX404 — For Harvia Club K heaters at 240V/1PH (9kW+) with F2T or F2 control.
24H7D Digital Time Clock — A 24-hour, 7-day programmable time clock for commercial installations. Use with the F2 control and appropriate contactor to limit sauna operation to business hours. Available for both FIN and Club/Virta heaters.
Infrared sauna panel heaters use different controllers than traditional electric heaters. These controllers are simpler — they manage timer and temperature for carbon fiber or ceramic infrared panels.
Mechanical Timer (120V) — A twist-knob timer adjustable from 1 to 60 minutes with automatic shutoff. The most basic option for 120V carbon fiber infrared panels. Single-gang in-wall mount.
Homecraft Digital Controller TKE2-2 (240V) — A digital wall-mounted controller with timer and temperature display for 240V infrared panels. Controls up to twenty 300W panels. Includes a digital control panel and a separate relay control box. Also compatible with Homecraft C-Series, H-Series, and certain F-Series heaters.
Finnmark V2 LCD Touchscreen — A modern touchscreen digital controller designed for Finnmark Spectrum+ and Spectrum Carbon infrared panel kits. Full LCD display with touch interface.
It depends on the heater. Heaters with built-in controls (like the Harvia KIP built-in knob version, Harvia The Wall, Harvia Cilindro built-in, Finlandia FLB-30, and all Saunum Air models) do not need a separate controller — they're ready to install. Heater-only models (Harvia KIP without built-in, Harvia Spirit, all HUUM heaters, all Finlandia FIN heaters) require a separately purchased controller. When in doubt, check the product page or buy a complete heater package that includes everything.
For Harvia or Finlandia heaters, the Xenio CX170 WiFi is the recommended choice — it gives you the most features (touchscreen, app control, delay timer) and includes a built-in contactor. If you want the simplest/cheapest option for a Finlandia FIN heater under 6kW, the F1T analog dial works fine. For HUUM heaters, the UKU WiFi is the standard choice (and the only option if you want app control). The UKU Local works if you don't care about WiFi. For infrared panels, match the controller to your panel voltage (120V mechanical timer or 240V digital TKE2-2).
Not on the same heater unit. Harvia KIP models with built-in knob controls (KIP-B1 series) are not compatible with the Xenio CX170 — they're two separate product versions. If you want WiFi control, you need the KIP heater-only version (KIP-W1 or W3 series) paired with the Xenio CX170. The same applies to Harvia Cilindro — the built-in control version and the Xenio version are different SKUs.
Yes, partially. The Xenio CX170 works with both Harvia and Finlandia heaters — it's the same controller sold under both brands. The Finlandia F-series controls (F1T, F2T, F2) and FX contactors are specifically designed for Finlandia FIN heaters and Harvia Club heaters, with specific contactor requirements depending on voltage and wattage. HUUM UKU controllers only work with HUUM heaters — they are not cross-compatible with Harvia or Finlandia.
A controller is the user interface — the panel you touch to set temperature, time, and turn the heater on/off. A contactor is a power relay box that handles the high-amperage electrical load between the controller and the heater. Some controllers include a built-in contactor (like the Xenio CX170). Others (like the Finlandia F2T and F2) require a separately purchased contactor box (FX402, FX303, or FX404) depending on your heater's voltage and wattage.
