FAR infrared saunas are the most common and affordable type of infrared sauna. They use carbon fiber or ceramic heating panels that emit wavelengths in the 5.6–15 micron range — the longest infrared wavelengths, which penetrate about 1.5 inches into your body to raise core temperature and produce a deep, detoxifying sweat at a comfortable 120–150°F. Most models plug into a standard 120V outlet, heat up in 15–20 minutes, and require no special ventilation.
We carry FAR infrared saunas from Dynamic Saunas, Maxxus, and Golden Designs in low, ultra low, and near-zero EMF configurations. Every order ships free with 0% APR financing. Not sure if FAR infrared is right for you? Read our FAR vs. full spectrum comparison or use our Sauna Selector Tool.
Unlike a traditional sauna that heats the air around you, FAR infrared panels emit light energy that your body absorbs directly. This warms you from the inside out without needing to superheat the air, which is why infrared saunas operate at much lower ambient temperatures (120–150°F vs. 150–195°F for traditional) while still producing a heavy sweat. The FAR wavelength band (5.6–15 microns) is the most efficient at raising core body temperature because it matches the wavelengths your body naturally absorbs best.
FAR infrared is the workhorse wavelength for deep sweating, improved circulation, and cardiovascular response — the benefits most people associate with infrared sauna use. It's also the most studied wavelength range in infrared sauna research.
FAR infrared saunas emit only the longest infrared wavelengths (5.6–15 microns). They're more affordable and deliver excellent core heating and sweat response. If deep sweating and relaxation are your primary goals, FAR infrared gets the job done at a lower price point.
Full spectrum saunas add near infrared (0.7–1.4 microns) and mid infrared (1.4–5.6 microns) wavelengths on top of FAR. Near infrared targets skin and surface tissue, mid infrared reaches deeper into joints and soft tissue. Full spectrum costs more but gives you broader therapeutic coverage across all tissue depths. See our detailed comparison for a full breakdown.
Bottom line: If you want the best value in an infrared sauna and your main goal is a quality sweat session, FAR infrared is the smart choice. If you want the widest range of wavelengths and budget isn't the primary concern, go full spectrum.
FAR infrared saunas are available across all three EMF tiers:
Low EMF (under 10 mG) — The standard tier for quality infrared saunas. Dynamic Saunas' standard line and Maxxus models fall here. Well within accepted safety thresholds and the most affordable option.
Ultra Low EMF (under 3 mG) — Dynamic's Elite models achieve this through advanced panel shielding. A good step up if you want extra peace of mind at a moderate price premium.
Near Zero EMF (under 1 mG) — The lowest available. Dynamic's full spectrum line targets this level. Best for anyone who prioritizes minimizing EMF exposure. See our EMF level comparison guide for details.
Dynamic Barcelona — A 1–2 person low EMF FAR infrared sauna in Canadian hemlock. One of the most popular entry-level models in our catalog. Compact enough for a bedroom, closet, or bathroom. Plugs into a standard 120V outlet.
Dynamic Barcelona Elite — The ultra low EMF version of the Barcelona with upgraded panel shielding and added red light therapy. Same compact footprint with better EMF performance.
Dynamic Santiago — A 2-person FAR infrared sauna with more interior space and panel coverage than the Barcelona. Available in Elite (ultra low EMF) and full spectrum (near-zero EMF) versions.
Dynamic Vittoria — Another 2-person option with a slightly different bench layout. Low EMF, Canadian hemlock, standard 120V.
Dynamic Bellagio — A 3-person FAR infrared sauna for families or anyone who wants extra space. Corner bench design maximizes usable interior room.

FAR infrared saunas don't include near infrared wavelengths, but you can add targeted near-infrared and red light exposure by mounting a red light therapy panel inside your sauna. This gives you FAR infrared heating plus red light photobiomodulation for skin health, collagen production, and muscle recovery — without buying a full spectrum sauna. Our guide on adding red light therapy to your sauna covers panel selection, placement, and setup.
If you'd rather have red light built in from the factory, check out Dynamic's Elite models or browse our red light therapy saunas collection.
Yes. FAR infrared is the same type of radiant heat your body naturally emits and absorbs. It's been studied extensively and is used in medical settings for pain relief and circulation improvement. FAR infrared saunas are considered safe for healthy adults when used as directed. If you have specific health conditions, consult your doctor before starting a sauna routine.
A traditional sauna heats the air to 150–195°F using a rock-based heater — you can pour water on the rocks for steam. A FAR infrared sauna heats your body directly at 120–150°F with no steam. Infrared heats up faster (15–20 min vs. 30–45 min), uses less electricity, and most models plug into a standard outlet. The heat feels gentler but you still sweat heavily. If you want both options, consider a hybrid sauna.
Most 1–2 person FAR infrared saunas operate on a standard 120V household outlet. Larger 3–4 person models may need a dedicated 240V circuit. Always check the specific product's electrical specs before purchasing. See our electrical requirements guide.
A typical 30–45 minute session can burn roughly 200–600 calories depending on temperature, session length, and your body weight. Use our sauna calorie calculator for a personalized estimate.
If your main goals are deep sweating, relaxation, and cardiovascular benefits at the best price, FAR infrared is the way to go. If you also want near and mid infrared wavelengths for skin, joint, and soft tissue benefits, full spectrum is worth the upgrade. Our comparison guide has the full breakdown.
